Age of Empires 3 Baltic Powers DLC Is Back for September

Cancelled DLC coming back from the dead is about as rare as a comet sighting — so when it happens, it’s worth celebrating.

According to Eurogamer, Microsoft has revived the Baltic Powers expansion for Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition, an add-on originally shelved back in early 2025. It’s now slated to arrive this September, giving one of the most beloved classic RTS games a fresh injection of content.

Why I Love This Move

Reviving finished-or-nearly-finished content is a genuinely pro-player decision. Age of Empires III has a small but ferociously loyal community, and this signals that Microsoft still sees value in supporting classic strategy titles rather than letting them fade. For a 20-year-old game to be getting brand-new civilizations in 2026 is remarkable — and a great precedent for other legacy franchises.

It’s also a low-risk way back into the genre. Definitive Edition frequently goes on sale for pocket change, and the community multiplayer scene is still active.

Great pick if: you love historical RTS games, you enjoyed AoE II or IV, or you want a strategy fix that runs on nearly any laptop.

Skip if: you exclusively play fast-paced modern competitive RTS — AoE III’s pacing is more deliberate.
