Next God of War Kratos Game Announced at SDCC 2026
If you thought Kratos was done raging across mythologies, think again — and honestly, I couldn’t be happier about it.
At San Diego Comic-Con 2026, Santa Monica Studio’s creative lead Cory Barlog confirmed that another Kratos-led God of War entry is in the works, and that it will pick up threads directly from God of War Laufey, the Faye-focused chapter fans have been buzzing about. According to IGN’s reporting from the panel, the two games are designed as connected stories rather than standalone spin-offs.
Why This Matters
- Kratos returns as the playable lead after Laufey shifts the spotlight to Faye
- Direct narrative continuity — Laufey’s story feeds straight into the next game
- Santa Monica Studio remains at the helm, which has been a reliability stamp for a decade
My Take
This is smart sequencing. Letting Faye carry a full game first gives the series room to breathe, and it means the next Kratos adventure will land with real emotional stakes instead of just “more axe, bigger bosses.” The 2018 reboot proved this team can reinvent a character everyone thought was a one-note rage machine; I trust them to do it again.
The connected-story approach also solves a real problem for newcomers: play Laufey first, and you’ll walk into the next game fully invested. That’s a better on-ramp than a wiki binge.
Should You Care Right Now?
Buy Laufey when it arrives if: you love narrative action games, you own a PS5, or you want the full context before Kratos returns. (We’ve covered Laufey’s February 16, 2027 release date in detail.)
Wait if: you’re strictly a multiplayer person — this series remains gloriously single-player.
Either way, PlayStation’s first-party lineup just got a lot more interesting for the next few years.
