Pebblebee's Battery-Free Bag Tags and Pet IDs Are Clever
The best gadget accessories are sometimes the ones with no electronics at all.
According to 9to5Google, Pebblebee — the tracker maker known for supporting both Google’s Find Hub and Apple’s Find My networks — has launched a line of battery-free ID tags for luggage and pet collars, designed to complement its active Bluetooth trackers.
The idea in a nutshell
- Battery-free bag tags — help a finder identify and return your lost luggage
- Pet collar IDs — give your dog or cat a scannable identity without a dangling metal tag
- Companion, not replacement — they work alongside Pebblebee’s powered trackers, covering the “human finds it” scenario that Bluetooth tracking can’t
My take
I really like this layered approach to not losing your stuff. A Bluetooth tracker tells you where something is — but it does nothing for the kind stranger who actually finds your bag on a carousel or your dog three streets over. A simple, scannable ID closes that loop, and because there’s no battery, it never dies at the worst possible moment.
That last point is the underrated one. Every powered tracker I’ve owned has eventually gone silent because I forgot to swap a coin cell. A passive tag has exactly zero maintenance. For pets especially, “works forever” beats “works when charged” every time.
The one thing I’d want to verify before buying: what information a scanner sees and how you update it. Ideally your contact details live behind a profile you can edit, rather than being printed on the tag itself — better for privacy and for when you change phone numbers.
Who should buy
- Frequent travelers: pair a powered tracker inside the bag with an ID tag outside it — that combo covers nearly every lost-luggage scenario.
- Pet owners: an easy, durable upgrade over engraved tags, especially alongside a microchip.
- Existing Pebblebee users: a natural, inexpensive add-on to the ecosystem you’re already in.
Small, cheap, and solves a real problem — that’s my favorite category of gadget.
